1968 E-Type OTS Roadster Project – SOLD!
This one is SOLD! – But there are always more E-Type projects popping up around here looking for a new home – call or write to us to be added to the “early bird” list of the first people to get a chance at the next project!
Another customer has asked for our help in selling their E-Type project – it’s another GREAT one – and it’s also another one that is WELL underway! The restoration has been started, and most of the metalwork and bodywork is complete!
This is a 1968 Series 1.5, 4.2-liter E-Type Roadster – or “Open Two-Seater” (OTS). This E-Type restoration project is complete, numbers-matching, and does not appear to have suffered any major collisions. It was originally Opalescent Silver Grey with a Black interior. The metalwork is completed, and only the final bodywork and finish paint remains to be applied.
The car still retains it’s original 4.2-liter engine – which did run when the car was disassembled for paint and bodywork several years ago. It also has its original 4-speed full-synchro gearbox – and the car was able to be driven around as well at that time.
Provenance –
This E-Type is all numbers matching – the current owner acquired a Heritage Certificate from Jaguar that confirms the numbers. The engine block and gearbox are both stamped with the correct number matching the Heritage Certificate, and a new data plate has been created thaat reflects all of the correct numbers.
The thumbnails below show the new data plate and all of the matching engine and gearbox stampings. The last 2 digits of the chassis number have been removed for privacy, but they do match, of course. You can click these photos to enlarge them.
We do have a clear US title, and will also provide a bill of sale, as well as the Heritage Certificate itself – shown below.
History –
This E-Type has been under the same ownership for the past 7 years – before that it spent much of its life in Colorado, where the dry climate and high-altitude are kind to an E-Type’s body shell. The current owner purchased the car in 2015 in this condition. Due to starting a family at the same time, he was not able to get the restoration underway, and with 3 young children now, has realized that it will be a LONG time before he can devote any time to the car.
Body Shell and Bonnet –
The car has never suffered any major collisions, and the body shell is straight and solid. At the time of disassembly for bodywork, no major rust was found
Take a look at the bonnet – it is in great shape! The shape of the mouth and the entire bonnet overall is excellent. The bonnet did have the typical rust in the hinge plates, and that has been repaired. The current owner has indicated that the repair is solid and strong, but that it is cosmetically lacking when viewed from the inside and could be improved.
Drivetrain & Running Gear –
The previous owner was able to start and drive the car around before disassembling the car for the bodywork. The current owner has confirmed that the engine does still turn free. While the engine was out, it was cleaned and the cam cover gaskets, etc. were replaced to freshen things up. The engine and gearbox were then re-installed.
Additional Parts –
The car is complete, and all components that are not currently assembled onto the car will be included with the car and carefully packed inside for shipping. There are dozens of photos below that show the original parts that are included with the project.
Interior –
Most of the original interior is still included with the car, and the original leather seats are in good enough condition to have their patina preserved for an original, well-worn finish – OR a new interior kit could be purchased and installed. All of the gauges and switches are original to this car, and are in very good condition.
Location & Shipping –
This E-Type is located at the current owner’s home in Ohio, USA. We have worked with Schumacher Logistics, CFR Rinkens, Direct Express (and many others…) in the past to ship cars to the UK, Europe, and Australia with good results, and I am sure that they can work out the transportation for you if you are an overseas buyer. We have sold many E-Types over the years, and are familiar with the process of shipping them overseas.
Conclusion –
This is a GREAT E-Type project that could be completed in a very reasonable amount of time – the metalwork and bodywork is completed, and that is the biggest hurdle in an E-Type restoration!
So stop dreaming and get to work – grab this one, finish the restoration – which is WELL underway, and start LIVING your E-Type dream! But if you are interested, DON’T WAIT – as I’ve said many times, they go FAST!
