1969 E-Type Fixed-Head Coupe Project – SOLD!

 1969 E-Type Fixed-Head Coupe Project

This is one VERY SOLID and ORIGINAL E-Type project!  This one checks all the boxes –  complete, all original, numbers-matching, 2-seater Fixed-head coupe, original factory colors of British Racing Green with a tan interior – and still in the original paint with only only 39,904 original miles!  This will be an easy restoration of a GREAT E-Type!

Overview –

This 1969 E-Type FHC (Fixed-Head Coupe) is a real survivor – it is in very original condition – in the original British Racing Green exterior and original tan leather interior.  It is all numbers-matching – with only 39,000 original miles!

We found this E-Type project tucked away in a garage in Pennsylvania earlier this Summer.  It had been somewhat disassembled in 1977 after a minor accident for repair and then just sat for a LONG time – but inside of a good, DRY building.  Once we got the car back to the shop, we looked it over carefully, re0installed the original engine and gearbox and IRS assembly, and added a correct Series 2 bonnet.

This is a factory air-conditioned car, with manual rack-and-pinion steering.  As a late Series 2 coupe, it is the ultimate refinement of the 6-cylinder E-Type, incorporating a full-synchro gearbox, a racing-quality braking system, improved engine cooling, and more!  It also includes refinements such as air-conditioning, and comfortable seats that recline. Finally, this E-Type even incorporates safety improvements like a collapsible steering column, shoulder seat belts, and headrests!  By the time this E-Type was built in May of 1969, ALL of the kinks had been ironed out, and these cars are a pleasure to drive!

This is a project for total restoration – it will need everything, but it also has everything – all of the important components are intact, and the car is almost entirely complete except for a few air-conditioning compoinents – and I might even have some of those on the shelf…

We do have a clear US title, and will also provide a bill of sale.  The original data plate is intact, as is the original front chassis member with the matching chassis number stamped into it (that has been replaced along with the frame rails, but the original will come with the car.)  For privacy, I have hidden the last 2 digits of the chassis number – this car is not yet logged into the www.xkedata.com E-Type registry, and I believe that it should be the new owners choice as to whether or when to do so…

Body Shell and Bonnet –

This body shell is nothing short of incredible! – VERY little rust means this one will be an easy restoration!

The monocoque body shell, doors, and rear hatch are all original and have never been removed.  The way the doors and hatch open and shut is unbelievable – they all fit beautifully and open and close like a new car!  See the video posted on our Facebook page to see this for yourself.

The car was involved in a front-end collision in early 1977, and the original bonnet was not with the car when we purchased it.  We have added another original Series 2 bonnet from an incomplete Texas project car that we also purchased earlier this year.  This bonnet has zero rust, and the wings and lower valance are excellent.  The center section has suffered some minor accident damage in the past, and has been hammered out and filled, but this could be improved upon and overall this is an excellent original bonnet for restoration.

Drivetrain & Running Gear –

The complete drivetrain and all accessories are original to THIS car.  The original engine, gearbox, and IRS were removed but simply sitting next to the car when found, and we have re-installed them properly for ease of transport.

We remove the spark plugs on all engines that we acquire and put Marvel Mystery Oil (ATF) in the cylinders so that a future restorer will receive the engine in good condition to be rebuilt.  When we did that on this engine, we discovered that this had already been done at some time in the past!  So you can expect this to be an excellent engine for rebuilding, that I would doubt needs boring or turning of the crankshaft…

The gearbox is also the original from this car, as is the complete IRS assembly.  When found, the original driveshaft was still sitting in the tunnel…

Glass and Brightwork –

This E-Type came from the factory with  original Triplex Sun-dym light green tinted glass.  It is all original and intact and in excellent condition – except the windshield which is broken.  INCLUDED with the sale is a virtually new Triplex Sun-dym FHC windshield with one extremely small chip in it (literally the size of a pin head…) – we received this windshield years ago from another restoration shop – I think they put the chip in and were forced to replace it…  This car is the perfect new home for it in my opinion.

ALL of the chrome is included – and it is all in good restorable condition.

All of the chrome on the main body shell from the firewall back is original to this car and in good restorable condition.  The windshield and rear hatch window surround chrome is not on the car in the photos, but WILL be included (see photos of these pieces on the bench by the windsheild…)

The chrome on the bonnet is all present and we have added these pieces from our stock.  I have selected all original chrome in good restorable condition.

Interior –

The interior is 100% ORIGINAL and in very good condition.  The gauges look as good as new, the original switches do as well…  The original dashpad looks brand new – attesting to the near-perfect conditions that the body shell was stored in.  The original tan leather seats are worn and dirty, and while they have cracks, they appear to have no tears, and you MIGHT even be able to restore and dye the leather for an excellent patina!

This car was originally equipped with air-conditioning from the factory, and MOST of the system is intact and complete.  The special accessory bracketry for the engine that relocates the alternator and allows the compressor to me mounted is all in place.  his includes the original compressor, and most importantly, the original pulleys and tensioners – this stuff is impossible to find if you do not have it!

The condensor in front of the radiator is missing, as are the radiator cooling fans – although we will include and original Series 2 twin-fan shroud and the fan motor brackets – the motors and blades are readily available new…

Location & Shipping –

This E-Type is owned by Monocoque Metalworks and is located at our shop in Maryland, USA.  We have worked with Schumacher Logistics in the past (as well as several others…) to ship cars to the UK, Europe, and Australia with good results, and I am sure that they can work out the transportation for you if you are an overseas buyer.  We have sold many E-Types over the years, and are familiar with the process of shipping them overseas.  We can help you find a shipper – and safe transport to the docks in Elizabeth, NJ is available in an insured, enclosed trailer by me personally for an additional fee.

Conclusion –

Overall, this is a GREAT E-Type survivor, and would be a fun restoration that would be MUCH easier than is typical for an E-Type!  I know it sounds cliche’ – but it’s true – you just don’t find them like this anymore!

So stop dreaming and get to work – grab this one, start the restoration process, and start LIVING your E-Type dream!  But if you are interested, DON’T WAIT – as I’ve said many times, they go FAST!

Very Reasonably Priced – Serious Inquiries only, Please
