Monocoque Metalworks owns quite a few E-type project cars that are incomplete, and we are always on the lookout for the pieces we need to turn them back into complete and correct E-Types that can be properly restored.
So on a chilly Sunday in early February, I found myself taking a day trip up into northern central Pennsylvania to pick up this E-Type engine and IRS unit, plus some front uprights and brake calipers.

Up and out of the house early on a Sunday morning, driving along with my coffee and listening to Frank Sinatra – a Sunday morning tradition around here…
-
-
It was beautiful day, and the farther north we went, the more beautiful!
-
-
Here are a few cabooses resting semi-permanently on this scenic bridge.

This was one of those classic small towns that I seem to find myself going through on these trips! I skipped food for most of the day, and had a big fat breakfast sandwich at a local bagel shop here on my way home, and took a quick stroll down this street with my coffee to “stop and smell the roses” for a change…

-
My destination was an aging hot-rodder who had even more projects than me!
-
-
This was an original ’32 Ford 5-window coupe body – that was actually raced back in the day!
-
-
Now this little car REALLY caught my eye, and in a moment of weakness, I was ALMOST convinced to buy it!
-
-
It is a 1925 Renault “Torpedo Skiff” roadster. Man I dug it – alot! And it was all there!
-
-
This was another project car that my new friend, Ed had finally decided to part with. It is a very tired XK-120 Fixed-head that he has gathered up piece by piece over about the past 20 years…
-
-
She was rough – and incomplete, but hopefully her new owners will finally see the project through.
-
-
…but it is going to be a BIG job!
-
-
Lots of cool XK parts and pieces!
-
-
And Ed’s outbuildings were filled with SEVERAL lifetimes of car projects – here is yet another TOTAL restoration!
-
-
The stuff that dreams are made of… Ed is starting to realize that while dreaming of how to build these cars DID fuel his dreams over the years, it is time to start letting them go, because life is just too short to restore them ALL!
-
-
Parts were literally stacked up to the rafters…
-
-
…and beyond!
-
-
And finally, here is the reason I came!
-
-
This engine came out of an XK-120 racer, but it is a 3.8 E-Type engine with a matching block and head – PERFECT for one of our E-Type projects!

Here is my new friend, Ed. He wasn’t wild about having his photo taken, but it turned out so great that I just couldn’t resist putting it up here. He was yet another GREAT guy I have met on this E-Type adventure, and we had lots of fun swapping stories for a couple of hours while loading up the parts.

And finally, another great shot from Ed’s driveway. He owns all of this land, and the old chassis in the foreground was just too cool not to take a photo of!
