1963 E-Type Fixed-Head Coupe – SOLD!
SOLD! To a great new home I think, with an enthusiast in Australia who has been looking for the right E-Type for a LONG time, and is going to restore the car himself – Congratulations, Peter!
I’ve said it time and time again – they don’t last long! Officially, this one sold in 39 hours, but it was only 26 hours after it was listed when Peter called and said “I’m pretty sure I’m going to take it. Hold it for me until tomorrow morning, and I will call you at 7 AM your time (16 hour time difference…).” And at 6:59 AM the next morning, my phone rang and she was on her way to a new home!
So keep watching here for the next one, but THE BEST WAY TO GET IN ON THESE DEALS EARLY is to drop me a line and ask to be added to “the list” – of people who get notified the second we have a new E-type project available!

What a find!!! This is probably one of the best condition, most original, unrestored Series 1 E-Types left…
Recently, I went to look at the E-Type shown below. This is a 3.8-liter Fixed-Head coupe, built in March of 1963. It is VERY solid, VERY original, and numbers matching as well.
This E-Type is an original Indigo Blue car with a red interior. The originality on this car is excellent – everything is as it should be. Of course, all numbers match… The engine is numbers matching and has the correct block and head. The engine was rebuilt by the previous father and son owners, who had several other Jaguars and were enthusiasts. It was rebuilt, but has NOT been started. The engine does turn freely.
This E-Type currently belongs to a local gentleman who has had the car for a few years, and had planned to restore it, but he is more of an American muscle car guy, and is ready to let the car go based on some other events in his life. He asked us to help him find a good home for this special E-Type. The current owner purchased this car about 3 years ago from the family that had owned it since approx. 1978 or 1979. He has been a friend of that family for that long, and remembers when they purchased it, and riding around in it with their son. This E-Type was taken off the road for the engine rebuild and repair of the RH front wing in 1981, and never completed. Aside from the last 3 years, which it spent in this building, it was in a well-built steel building with a concrete floor – it has been indoors and dry for the past 35 years… The tags on the car expired in 1980…
Condition of body – Overall, the body of the car is in EXCELLENT condition for an E-Type of this age, and this is going to be an EASY restoration! The RH front wing of the bonnet was damaged – they hit a deer with that – or more like the deer hit them, as the damage was all in the area of the wheel, and the entire headlamp area and center section are undamaged and excellent. The mouth shape is perfect. The bonnet lower valance has the typical rust in the hinge plates, but is otherwise decent and repairable. The rest of the bonnet looks very good. The monocoque body itself from the firewall back is TOTALLY original, straight, and virtually rust-free. The doors and rear hatch close as well or better than any E-Type I have ever seen!
You just don’t find them like this anymore! THIS is a car that can be a 100-point show winner, or the cream of the crop at the top auction houses of the world. This is a virgin E-Type, that has been well cared-for – indoors, for the past 35 years! Every nut, bolt, screw and washer is factory correct. No-one has ever disassembled the car, and the condition of everything is excellent. For these reasons, the restoration will be faster, less expensive, and easier than it would be with the typical E-Type restoration projects that become available. It will also be more satisfying along the way, and economically rewarding when completed. The original perfection of the monocoque body – the alignment, no serious accidents, and the fact that it is virtually rust-free – is priceless…
Important points to consider:
- Complete, Original, and ALL numbers matching
- Unmolested – nearly the entire car is untouched and as it left the factory
- ROCK SOLID! – Restoration of the monocoque body shell will be minimal
- We have a clear US Title, car rolls easily, and transportation to an International shipping port can be easily arranged
THIS IS IT!!! THIS is the E-Type you have been waiting for – DON’T MISS IT!
Serious inquiries only, please.
- Here it is – VERY original and VERY solid!
- The frame rails are intact and straight, and based on the condition of the rest of the car, will probably only need cleaning and repainting…
- The engine is completely rebuilt, but has never been fired. It spins free, and IS numbers matching and all original.
- Every detail of the engine is original and intact.
- Another shot of the carbs and correct smooth air cleaner plenum.
- The interior is all original and entirely intact.
- Dash is complete and all gauges are also original, correct, and in good condition.
- Floors are solid. There may be small area where some rust has crept in, but this car has been indoors since 1980, and it shows!
- The seats have been recovered and never sat in – they have been in a closet indoors since 1980 as well, but look brand new!
- RH side also shows that everything is as it should be, and the condition of all components is excellent.
- Carpets have been removed, but a complete set of NEW carpets is also included.
- This car is EXTREMELY VIRGIN! Every single nut, bolt, screw, washer, etc. is just as it should be and still in place!
- Another shot of the recovered seats from the RH side, with the center console set into place.
- As a 1963, this car has the rarer “cross-hatch” pattern on the aluminum co nsole, shift tower, radio and dash fascias – and it is all in quite good condition!
- A shot of the recovered seats.
- Well stored, and in excellent condition.
- I think this pretty much says it all about the overall condition of this E-Type!
- The new carpeting that is included.
- The body shell itself is in EXCELLENT condition! Little (if any!) rust, and NEVER wrecked – there are not even any minor dents!
- Opening up the rear hatch is a very smooth operation, and reveals an absolutely unmolested interior!
- The rear hatch is flawless…
- These panels are all intact and all fit together well – these pieces are usually GONE in a typical project E-Type!
- Peeling back the layers continues to reveal only dust and dirt, but otherwise perfect pieces!
- The original spare tire is still there…
- …and so is the original jack…
- …AND the original tool kit!
- The only downside to this car is the condition of the bonnet, and in my opinion, the damage here is minor and easily remedied. This is the RH front wing that was poorly repaired in the past by a hobbyist. This should be removed and replaced with another properly restored original.
- The center section, LH wing, and all internal bonnet pieces is EXCELLENT! Note the flawless shape of the mouth of the center section!
- Like ALL E-Types, this one needs a new lower valance as well. This one is actually repairable with one of our new support members, or it could also be replced entirely with a new piece.
- The LH wing is flawless.
- Aside from the RH front wing and lower valance, this is the only other real damage. This area is very prone to rust, but this actually just looks like this was “hooked” by something and pulled back. It is probably a storage issue…
- The original Marston aluminum radiator is even present!
- AND in restorable condition! You NEVER see these anymore!
- All chrome pieces are present and in good condition.
- As you can see, there are a few extra pieces as well!
- Finally, a new dashpad is also included.
