It’s just crazy around here!
I have been meaning to blog for about 6 weeks now and I just can’t find the time… The shop and the parts business are both redlined, and with the Summer in full swing, so is my personal life – AAAGGGHHHHH!!! But it’s all great fun!
There have been some really cool things going on here lately and I am anxious to talk about them on here and show the photos, but it’s just going to have to wait until next week – I am headed out soon for a MUCH needed break over the holiday.
Just to whet your appetite, here is a quick list of the coolness:
- We have completely revamped that Series 2 OTS shell I almost got killed picking up last December – we have turned it into a beautiful Series 1.5 shell with another Series 2 to Series 1 Tail conversion (best one yet!), new doors, and a few minor repairs – we’re working on the bonnet now which the new owner just shipped in.
- Speaking of bonnets – there finally got to be so many Series 1 bonnets in for restoration that I could no longer tell them apart (now that’s alot!) – I actually had to make up aluminum number tag sets for all of the pieces to each bonnet – never had to do that before…
- We have switched over to a new epoxy primer from etch, and I think it is going to be the ticket going forward – I love the results and so will the E-Types!
- I have been driving the wheels off the new MM E-Type! (something is getting clunkier all the time in the RH rear – I think we need to re-shim the hub bearings back there or I literally AM going to drive the wheels off!)
- I had a “hand scare” – but it turned out to be a “ganglion cyst” which the doctor literally blew up with a hefty shot of cortisone – Whew!
- 2 days ago, I actually found a Series 1 E-Type… IN A BARN – LITERALLY!!!…, and I of course purchased it and will be offering it up on here to find it a good new home – are you that guy? You’ll LOVE this story – and the photos!
- And as if that isn’t cool enough – I have purchased a LARGE batch of used E-Type parts – so much so that it is taking multiple trips with the truck and trailer to get them back here. Now, THESE photos will definitely BLOW YOUR MIND!
So don’t give up on me – I haven’t flaked out or closed up shop – whenever the blogs stop you know the exact opposite is true – I’m running at 110%!
And just so this isn’t a blog entry with no photos at all, I’ll give you a little taste of what life outside of Monocoque Metalworks is like. The hard work never stops – 2 weekends ago, I had to make good on my promise to build the kids a tree-house. I came up with this brilliant idea when a willow tree up north split this past Winter and I had to come up with SOMETHING to hold it together…
As usual, I blew the estimate of how long it would take (what else is new?…), but the job is done and I think I may have locked up “father of the year”… Have a great 4th of July! – Chuck
