Third place goes to this panel that we finally patterned and fabricated as a whole piece for a restoration shop that could not find the piece anywhere else currently.
This is the top panel of all 6-cylinder, short-wheelbase E-Types – it is called the cowl top panel, or scuttle. This panel looks rather simple – it’s not. It’s size is what makes it a nightmare – before all of the edges are rolled in giving it strength, one false move and the whole thing bends in half!
The completed photos are not good – the oak floor in the new office is a bad background, and the lighting is not good – these photos don’t do justice to the piece, and before I ship it out, I will take better photos and update the blog (yeah right…)
Take special notice of the TIG weld along the front drip channel – it doesn’t get any finer than that!
