Well, I had this vision of finishing up the bonnet on Friday and then enjoying the weekend and getting a few things done today and tomorrow before heading up to Massachusetts. What a joke that turned out to be… I guess this is just the nature of racing – it is always a mad dash to the finish!
The bonnet is looking great and we are coming down the home stretch, but it was an INSANE amount of work to get this far. I ended up having to scrap EVERYTHING inside the bonnet as far as inner structure goes, and start over. The old stuff was dirty, thick, and tired, and what was mangled up in the wreck didn’t fit anymore now that I had completely reshaped the entire outer skin. So instead of this relaxing weekend staring at a finished bonnet being so proud of myself for getting done ahead of time, I worked from 11 AM to 11 PM on Saturday, and then from 10:30 AM to 3:00 AM last night. Brent is cleaning the shop now so I can dive back in. This project is going to come right down to the wire!
But let me tell you, this thing looks GREAT!!! And I realized last night that aside from a large portion of the center section skin, and the LH wing skin, everything else is new. Take a look at where we are as of right this minute:
