Well – my new toy came through – the new roller is GREAT! A picture is worth a thousand words on this one…
- Before…
- After!
- The prototypes… Even these are useable, but I put alot of time into getting the edges right so that the finished product would be dead smooth and require NO filler. PLus, I was also experimenting with different machines and methods.
- I cleaned the roller and polished the rolls last weekend (and didn’t do any favors my back moving it around!) These door skins are LASER STRAIGHT – thanks to the strength of this machine. Anything less would produce a curve that is not true along the entire length of the door.
- The gears inside are in great condition – and BIG! This looks like the inside of the transmission on my bulldozer! (Yes – I have my own bulldozer – mostly so I can say, “I have my own bulldozer.” It is a 1956 John Deere 420C – I bought it on a whim a few years ago because my grandfather was a bulldozer mechanic and I wanted to prove to myself that there was nothing I couldn’t fix – it needed the final drives rebuilt. If you think, like me, that it would be cool to own your own antique bulldozer someday to mess around with – just keep thinking that – actually having one is basically just LOTS OF WORK!
- I NEVER mix alcohol and work, but a little celebration was in order after I cleaned the shop! This photo was taken during the approx. 30 minutes I stood there and stared at this! This is a MAJOR breakthrough for us, and just one more step towards the eventual aluminum E-Type shells we will build! Happy Holidays!
