Here are a few shots of a headlamp bucket we re-shaped earlier this Summer. I figured out how to remove folds in these buckets about a year ago with some special tooling I made up for the power hammer. Have a look!
- Here’s our starting point – a solid, but “squished” original bucket.
- Here is another shot – undoubtedly the result of a side impact.
- And another. Most shops would just throw this away and hit you up with the cost of a new bucket – at over $200!
- First, we blast the bucket bare inside and out.
- We’ll then use a combination of hand tools and the power hammer to completely erase these kinks.
- Here is a shot after the initial shaping work. Next, we weld up all of the extra holes drilled in the past by bodgers with the TIG, then file and grind them smooth. If the headlamp bucket factory holes do not line up with the fender and center section’s factory holes when you are assembling the bonnet – something is wrong.
- Finished, and good as new!
- Yes – it’s the same bucket!
- We’ll probably knock the lip around a little more and smooth it as ew fit this to the bonnet.
- Here she is in bare steel with the other side – the crash damaged has been erased, and this bucket will fit the bonnet MUCH better than the reproductions that are currently available. AND – this was all done for MUCH less than the cost of that reproduction! Give us a ring if your E-Type’s headlamp buckets need a little TLC, or if you need a decent original pair rebuilt here. We also make the Series 1 E-Type headlamp scoops new!
