The next step for this build was to restore some early-style V-12 inner valances.
We actually purchased these plus a rusty center section from a Series 3 V-12 bonnet that was incorrectly mounted onto a Series 2 car 20 year ago by a body shop… – the crazy stories with these cars just never end…
So here are some quick photos of those pieces – I forgot to take photos before they were blasted – sorry.
- These pieces were nice – straight with some surface rust an a very small patch of cancer on the lower section of one side.
- These are the early v-12 style – note that the air tubes are straight. The later style has a very pronounced kink in the forward section of the tubes, and also an elongated tubulkar pressed relief in the flat section.
- A minimal amount of cancer which we will cut out and replace.
- There is a soft kink here that we smoothed.
- And another soft kink here that was removed as well.
- Here is another “before” shot of that soft kink. We make sure everything that is “wrong” with every panel is taken care of.
- Hit with a coat of red oxide in the areas that are surface rusted. These are now absolutely perfect, beautiful pieces.
- Here’s another shot – it is the upper (LH) valance in these photos that had a small patch (3″x3″) replaced at the bottom right where the red oxide fades into bare steel. You can’t really see it in these photos, because that is the way we repair things here… 🙂
